Just a Tease from FABAIC 2010

I’m pretty sure this jam was even bigger than our “Bling” Jam back in March.
We had tons of willing models and almost every single painter got to get their brushes dirty (or they got my brushes dirty- we share here in MD).
Lots of sharing and some new faces too.
Check out the pictures below! There are TWO pages of pictures there.
Scroll down and click the green Triangle when you have seen all 20 pictures on this page.

Description: $15.00
Typical Wolfe construction of spiral bound, 4″/5.5″, glossy card stock, no words, all pictures, some “cheek art”/half face and some full face depending on your definition.
My Full Face definition is that you turn the model into the animal/character.
7 out of 15 designs are “on” the face not “of” the face, if you catch my drift. No? You don’t catch that drift? You should consider standing downwind next time :P
Pros:
- Excellent quality photos
- Designs you probably haven’t seen in other books yet
- Nicely executed and super cute half face/cheek art animals
- Style. You know when it’s a Wolfe design. And I want someone to do the Insect design on me in Florida. You hear me, Wolfies?
Cons:
- I would only use 1, maybe 2 designs on a job out of this book: the Fish (Cute but I like Christina Davison’s better) and the Chimp (Shannon’s version works for me b/c it is faster)
- No color descriptions
- I HATE books & DVDs that don’t give details on how to do the cover art. Hate Hate Hate! You advertise with the cover- that is how you got my attention, isn’t it? Show me what I want, dang it!
- Also, beginner beware. This is not for you. Buy it for inspiration but don’t get discouraged.
Don’t miss these designs (even if you never use them, they are still awesome!):
- Bluejay
- Fish
- Chimp
- T-Rex
- Insect
Overall: Was it worth my $15? Yes. But I like Face Painting books a lot. If you only want new ideas for designs for gigs, this is not for you.

Just got these babies in from JestPaint.com. Anna helped me out with my special order so I could get it in time for FABAIC:

Oooh... Come to Mama
I’m debating whether I want to bring my stencils or not….

Woot! My first class with Mark Reid was on Sunday, May 16th at Carol Turman’s Vienna, VA Jam.
Carol’s Face Painting Jams are always awesome. She has so many talented connections plus she is just plain funny and genuine.
Sunday took the cake though because we got to take a class with Mark Reid (!!) for $20. Honestly, I so got my $20 worth.
I’m only going to post a few of these pictures so you can get a taste of what we got for our money:

Mark Paints Karen

Mark's Ironman

Mark's Flowers

Mark's Butterfly

My fairies are looking like caveman stick figures. Anyone know any good resources for drawing fairies?
Just to illustrate my point:

Here is a comparison of most of the golds I have tried and which ones I actually have in my kit.
Favorite, 100% Never leave Home Without It Gold: Kryolan Interferenze Bronze
Here it is used for a Princess Tiara on fair skin:
And here is one on darker skin:

Here it is as lipstick on fair skin (Hey, it’s me!):
But! It does not work well for dots or for linework over other colors.
So if I’m looking to use a gold for linework over a base color, then I pick my Wolfe/DFX gold.
The dots of “yellow” on top of the black swirls are Wolfe Gold:
Now, I also bought a 2ml size of Snaz Gold (Metallic, Electric, Sparkle? I’m not sure) when I was first sampling everything. It was kind of bleh and didn’t work well for my needs. Very transparent and not shiny enough for me.
DFX Old Gold - I just got this one in the mail and I will be keeping it with me for gigs. Very pretty! It is kind of a dark, copperish gold. I haven’t used it yet, but I will report back soon!
Here is a comparison picture of the golds I have:
I have not tried: Paradise, Kryolan Metallic Gold, Fardel (I’m dying for some of this!!), FWW, Ben Nye Lumiere Creams
